Abaqus Unified FEA
Due to its extensive range of functions, Abaqus is the gold standard in the art of simulation for a large variety of applications. It delivers an unrivalled, comprehensive, end-to-end solution for routine and sophisticated problems in many industries.
The diverse Finite Element (FE) solvers facilitate software-based analyses of complex loads in structural mechanics, dynamic vibrations, multi-body systems, and thermal problems with linear and non-linear characteristics.
While Abaqus is used predominantly in digital product development, it also can assist thereafter in the validation of designs. The aims of digital development are to reduce the number of hardware tests, optimise products, reduce the amount of materials required, and/or prolong the lifecycles of products. Ultimately, the goals are to cut down on development and production costs and/or to increase the product’s market share due to its enhanced performance.
CAE’s interface enables you to develop, edit, and monitor models or analyses efficiently and to visualise the results. To this end, you can import and then connect CAD geometries in common formats. Interfaces with CATIA V5, SolidWorks, and Pro/ENGINEER facilitate the synchronisation of CAD and CAE data, thus automating and speeding up the updating process. In addition, you can develop fully parametrised models to facilitate rapid design studies.
The CAE tools can be used to automate modelling processes as well as for analyses and/or evaluations. This helps process routine analyses with a high level of accuracy and efficiency and thus reduces cycles and cuts down on project costs.
The implicit solver in Abaqus/Standard is ideal for static and dynamic structural-mechanical loads for low-speed and high-precision requirements. The software is particularly well-suited for non-linear loads and offers several approaches to hyperelastic plastic materials with or without damage. You can select from among a variety of contact definitions to conduct analyses with significant deformations (2nd order theory), for example, of the pressure in sealing joints, of steady-state rolling of tires, or of crack propagation in components made of composites. You can analyse models in the time and the frequency domains within one single simulation. Typical examples include non-linear mounting analyses that define the starting point for analysing natural frequency.
The explicit solver in Abaqus/Explicit is ideal for conducting analyses in the field of brief transient dynamics, for example, drop tests of mobile phones, automotive crashworthiness, or the impact of a body on a component in the aviation or construction industry.
Because of its ability to effectively handle severely non-linear behaviour and contact among diverse components, Abaqus/Explicit is also particularly well-suited to simulating quasi-static events. Numeric devices such as mass scaling are used to assist your analyses, for example, of the rolling of metal, or the static crash behaviour of energy-absorbing components/equipment.
Abaqus Unified FEA can be used to solve diverse multiphysics problems. Multiphysics has been a part of Abaqus from the beginning and has been developed continuously over many years as the software’s core functionality. As early as 1979, Abaqus/Aqua made it possible to analyse hydrodynamic wave loading on flexible structures for offshore pipelines. Other effects have been added over the years including thermal, electric, and fluid coupling.
The art of Abaqus Multiphysics is that it can easily extend structural-mechanical models to include additional physical effects. Because both types of analyses use the same elements, material data, and load definitions you can take the same multiphysics effects into consideration without the need for any additional tools or interfaces.
